Thickness micrographic method

Evaluation of the thickness of the various layers of painted components.

The laboratory is able to perform measurements of the paint layers of plastic or metal components using a metallographic microscope with magnification up to 1000X.

To perform this measurement, the sample must first be cut to the appropriate size and incorporated in resin. Subsequently, manual lapping is carried out using papers with decreasing grain, then increasingly finer, up to the final polishing cloth.

Subsequently the incorporated sample is inserted under the microscope lens and by increasing the magnification it is possible to measure the thickness of the paint layer more precisely.

Measurements can also be made using polarized light.
