PHYSICAL - MECHANICAL, THERMAL AND RHEOLOGICAL TESTSTESTS

Determination of residual deformation after compression

Mechanical test performed to evaluate the behavior of rubber compounds under static compression.

This test is mainly required for the characterization of rubber compounds in the automotive sector, it involves compression with set deformation and conditioning at different temperatures or environmental conditions.

In this particular test, an evaluation of the elastic memory is performed, i.e. the measurement of the aptitude of an elastomer to return to its original configuration once the compressive load has been removed. The compression can be performed, for example, for 25% of the height of the specimen and once the plates have been removed, the height itself is evaluated, therefore the compression residual.

Normalized specimens of disc-shaped geometry in different dimensions are generally required.

The laboratory is able to perform the test according to international standards ISO 815-1 and ASTM D395.
